Every week, each team's score is compared against all eleven others, not just the one they happened to play. That gives a record the schedule can't distort. The bar is the gap between the wins they got and the wins those scores deserved.
The same idea, week by week: cumulative win rate against the entire league. A team sitting near .500 here was ordinary regardless of what its record says.
